All my knives begin with two things: quality high carbon steel and carefully selected hardwood, Whether reclaimed or premium hardwood, every material is chosen for its performance, durability and character.
1095 Carbon Steel
I use 1095 carbon steel in my knives because it takes an exceptional edge, sharpens easily and is built to perform. I like to think carbon steel is alive - it develops a patina and personality depending on what it’s cutting. A knife cutting onions will develop a different patina than one used primarily for proteins. Every blade tells its own story over time.
Cadillac Stamping Plant Press Block Wood
Before it became a knife handle, this hickory helped build Cadillacs. Reclaimed from press block assemblies at Detroit’s Historic Cadillac Stamping plant, every handle carries a genuine piece of Detroit’s industrial history into the kitchen.
Reclaimed Old-Growth Bloodwood
(Brosinmum sp.rubescens)
This Bloodwood began it’s life as architectural flooring before being given a second life as handcrafted knife handles. Exceptionally hard, durable and naturally beautiful, it creates knife handles built to last while giving a remarkable material a new life.
Blade finishes
I offer both satin and ferric chloride/obscenely strong coffee finishes. Ferric chloride/coffee finishes create a controlled patina on the carbon steel, helping protect against rust while giving the blade a dark, distinguished appearance. Think of it as the beginning of your knife’s natural patina, which will continue to develop with use.
Reclaimed walnut flooring from Comerica Park
Reclaimed walnut flooring salvaged from the Historic Comerica Park corporate offices. Rich color, beautiful grain and a genuine piece of Detroit history,
Select Premium Hardwoods
Not every story starts with reclaimed wood. I also use carefully selected hardwoods including Purple Heart, Black Palm, Leopardwood, African Mahogany and Desert Ironwood. Each brings its own color, grain and personality while creating durable handles built for years of use.
